Are You Happy?

Everyone you meet always asks if you have a career, are married, or own a house as if life was some kind of grocery list. But no one ever asks you if you are happy – Heath Ledger

True relationships are multidimensional and based upon a mutually-beneficial intellectual, spiritual and emotional connection.

Think about our own communications skills and actions.

We often ask, “how are you?” without really getting to the heart of the matter…how someone really feels. It’s more of an icebreaker.

We often ask, “so, what do you do?” without really regarding whether what they do is what they’re best at, whether they’re happy, or whether it’s a reflection of true possibility? We ask to measure someone’s value or status or explore opportunities in our own interests.

We often listen to someone without the intention to truly listen to them, but instead to respond.

Maybe we can change how we interact with one another to foster more connected and productive relationships.

Maybe we can rethink values and status in these times to connect with what really matters in life.

Maybe we can toss out that old checklist of someone else’s definition of success to live life our own way.

Maybe we can stop chasing happiness or envying when we *see* it in others to unlock it within ourselves.
